Chocolate Mug Cake – Explore With Me

With so much time in my hand to try out new hobbies this lock-down, I ended up awakening the ever so dormant baker in me. Being a novice in this area, it was a difficult choice to make amongst thousands of recipes I found online. Nevertheless, there were few mug brownie recipes which caught my eye – and the one I introduce to you in this blog is a perfect blend of all those recipes , arrived at after a few trials and errors. Baking is no less a science indeed!
Ingredients Used (Small mug)

Mug (Microwave safe)
All-purpose flour or Maida (2 tbsp)
Butter (2 tbsp)
Cocoa Powder or Dark Chocolate (2 tbsp)
Baking powder (1/2 tsp)
Milk (2 tbsp)
Powdered Sugar (2 tsp)
Vanilla Essence (optional)
Nutella (optional)
Choco chips (optional)
Walnut and Almonds (optional)


Sieve the flour, cocoa powder and baking powder into a mug (Make sure the mug is microwave safe).
Add powdered sugar and mix all the dry ingredients well.
Blend the unsalted butter and the milk and whisk it gently. Make sure the batter is not lumpy and all the dry ingredients are mixed well.
In addition to this, you can also add few drops of vanilla essence to enhance the flavour. Add a dollop of Nutella for a richer version of this recipe (optional).
If you are using a small mug, place it inside a microwave and let it bake for a minute. In case you are using a bigger mug, bake it for a minute and a half.
Take the mug out and check if the brownie has baked thoroughly by using a toothpick (if not, then bake it for another half minute)
Decorate the brownie with some chocolate chips and chipped almonds and walnuts on top. You can also add a blob of ice cream for a better experience.

If you are new to baking, (like I was) then this is the simplest dessert you can start with. This process will familiarize you with most of the baking ingredients and in no time, you’ll find yourself baking and donning the baker’s hat. My mother always mentions how fulfilling and rewarding baking is but I never understood its essence until I tried to bake this brownie myself. The batter you create will rise such that it will certainly lift your spirits too and the fresh smell of the bake wafting in your house is bound to set you on a baking spree for aeons to come.
